Within the Production Practice module Paul Mortlock who is a professional Director of Photography, specifically in the North West, came to visit our lecture. Paul himself gave our lecture a brief introduction to his career, as he has worked in the media for other businesses, however now he has decided to become free lance. Furthermore he expressed how he enjoys being free lance, as he can take more opportunities on board a long with the possibility of travelling around the world too. Meanwhile, it can be quite tough as having work to do is up to himself, therefore he expressed how "you need to be motivated, passionate and determined" to have lots of job opportunities. Furthermore, there can be stages where he explained you can go without money for a couple of weeks, or a company may not pay you for a long time as being free lance they sometimes do not treat you as professional, in comparison to working for a well known business. Ultimately the down falls is all a learning curve of being free lance, because throughout the journey you become more confident and know who to come into business with and who not to he explained.

Paul also gave our lecture some advice particularly about lighting on set. Paul explained this in our new Screen Room where he had set up as though ready to film. Subsequently he explained the best ways to use lighting on set thoroughly, whilst answered any questions which anyone had.

I thought this was a really enjoyable lecture, as it gave everyone more of an understanding of the world of work and whether we find this type of job suitable for ourselves. Furthermore we can also use his tips on lighting t0 enhance our own films.
