Google Maps...
08:23Google Maps...
Within the module "Contemporary Media Issues" we had to display a narrative using Google Maps. Firstly within the previous lecture as a team we created our own narrative using a specific object (a watch) which I have mentioned earlier in another blog. Subsequently we have now adapted to that task, yet using a more advanced software of portraying a narrative individually using Google Maps.
Firstly, it was important that I understood how to use Google Maps whilst be able to add images, text or even videos.
The images below are the steps I went through in order to create my own narrative portrayed on Google Maps using a text, animation, video and sound.
Once you have followed the first two steps (image 1 and 2) you will then have to create your own Title and Description for the map depending on what your chosen topic is. My narrative title was a "Shopping Tour Around Liverpool" with a brief description underneath too.
After deciding on your title and brief summary you then need to add a marker to the map which is the blue icon at the top of the map, next to the hand icon. You will then place it on a specific location on the map where you think is relevant to your narrative.
You can also change the font style of the text, size, bold, italic or underlined depending on what you want.
To add a link you simply select the button which is circled in the image on the left hand side. The button is next to the highlight text and if you hover over it with your mouse "link" text will appear.
Adding links is effective if you want to link to a specific website, or perhaps something which you have created on a website which you want the audience to see. It keeps the audience entertained as they are viewing various webpages rather than just staying on the map itself.
Once I completed experimenting with Google Maps I then had to come up with my own narrative to portray using Google Maps. It was essential that I had an idea before I started using the Google Maps as the narrative would then be quite vague.
Meanwhile I then came up with the idea of going on a shopping trip around Liverpool, furthermore it would be more enhanced by using video clips to represent the interior of retail, fashion shops. Although Google Maps already does display Images of Liverpool along with some parts of the Shopping Centre, they do not include footage of inside shops which would be more of a real experience for the audience. I thought this would be a great idea especially for those who have never visited Liverpool's Shopping Centre before.
The map does not just include a shopping journey around Liverpool as this can become quite competitive. Along the journey the user of the map must find a specific character named "Chloe" somewhere on the map as Chloe is the users "Personal Shopper". I have included various edited videos, images, text and music to enhance, whilst entertain the Map for the user.
I included different types of icons, whilst included some icons which were relevant to the topic of that specific location.
