Reflection...

There are four types of learning styles:

• Assimilating Style- Prefers readings, lectures and exploring analytical models. Also prefers to think things through on their own.
• Accommodating Style- Prefers to work with others to set goals, as well as getting assignments done and to test out different approaches to completing a project.
• Converging Style- Experimenting with new simulations, ideas, practical applications and assignments.
• Diverging Style- Prefers working in groups to gather information, listening with an open-mind and receiving personalised feedback.

By analysing the four learning styles I can evaluate that I fit in to both an  Assimilating Style learner and a Converging Style learner.

In 1984 David Kolb published his "KOLB Learning Styles Model" which portrays different types of learning styles. David A. Kolb is known as an educational theorist, subsequently he focuses primarily on experimental learning.
 
The diagram on the right illustrates the four stages which an individual goes through when learning something new. The individual can approach the cycle at any stage depending on the experience the individual has.

It is said that individual leaners will demonstrate differences in the way they think about things and the way they do things...

"Learning is the process whereby the knowledge is created through the transformation of experience" (David A. Kolb 1984)

You can be told how to use a new software on a computer, but actually using the software a long with experimenting with it you learn much more.

Different people naturally prefer a certain single different learning style, along with this various factors will influence a persons learning style too.

• Social environment
• Educational experience
• The basic cognitive structure

For example, the reason why I feel as though I am a assimilating style learner, rather than an accommodating learner, is because my experiences of learning styles have most of the time been structured, through readings or lectures rather than working in groups. Meanwhile I enjoy working in groups especially when it is spoken presentations, as it gives everyone confidence to know that we are their to help one another. Meanwhile I feel I can achieve more when working individually.

Meanwhile Kolb explains that we cannot perform both of these at the same time (think and feel) however we do either one or the other.

The Idea...

After researching about Sacred Geometry I now have more knowledge about the subject which I can now reflect this information within the programme screened on Blue Peter. Meanwhile before I started thinking about the idea, I researched some information about Blue Peter along with reviewing the types of programmes which Blue Peter screens. Furthermore this would give myself more of an overview of the types of programmes involves whilst how they engage with the target audience.

• Blue Peter Is known as "the worlds longest running children's television programme", first broadcasted in 1958.
• Blue Peter is shown on the CBBC channel along with other children's television programmes
• Blue Peter features many programmes from animated to real life too

After researching Blue Peter along with looking at the types of programmes which they screen, I came to a conclusion that I would include fictional, animated characters as this will extract the seriousness of "Sacred Geometry". Furthermore due to Sacred Geometry being an uninteresting subject for younger children, using real life people may make the audience feel as though they are just at school learning a new subject. Therefore, if I use animated characters it can entertain the audience whilst still inform them about Sacred Geometry.

Jonny is the main character, who got bought a new sight-seer outfit a long with binoculars, furthermore due to it being a beautiful day he decides to take a trip to the woods.

Once Jonny arrives at the woods he becomes distracted by a beautiful flower.

A new character is then introduced, who is a fairy named Sadie. Furthermore she introduces herself to Jonny. Once the characters have introduced themselves, Sadie then refers back to the flower which reminded her of Sacred Geometry "The Flower of Life".

Sadie then explains all about the Flower of Life along with defining Sacred Geometry too. Sadie also uses her wand to draw the Flower of Life whilst explain the different patterns too.

Jonny becomes extremely interested as he asks Sadie a variety of questions, whilst tries to come up with his own examples too.

Sadie then gives Jonny her wand, whilst explains to him that he can try and create his own objects referring to Sacred Geometry. Meanwhile Jonny is overwhelmed with all this knowledge, and is excited to explain to his mother. Furthermore Jonny walks back home trying to create different shapes with his new wand.

Sacred Geometry
"Sacred Geometry is the architecture of the Universe"

Sacred Geometry is a very broad subject which has took people a life time to learn about. Within the Creativity and Concept Development module our task was to come up with a four minute programme screened on Blue Peter, a long with targeting 8-12 year olds whilst to inform them about Sacred Geometry. Furthermore this task involved researching about Sacred Geometry, coming up with an idea which will engage with the demographic a long with writing an 800-1000 word essay about this idea.

Initially I researched about Sacred Geometry as before this task was set I did not know much about it. This video which I found on YouTube gave me more knowledge about the subject to be able to reflect this information within my idea for a programme for 8-12 year olds.

• The single point is the first archetype of Sacred Geometry
• Natures First Pattern- including the "The Germ Of Life, The Seed Of Life, The Flower Of Life, and The Fruit Of Life."
• Sacred Geometry engages with both the left and right side of the brain which is very rare
• The word Geometry stands for "World Measure"
• Sacred Geometry is said to make you see the world in a different light

The Idea...

Within our Production Profile Module we have now been given a new brief. Furthermore the new brief is about a Personal Profile about an individual who has an interesting story to tell which could be inspiring for an audience. Meanwhile, before we came up with a final idea, we had an individual task to come up with our own idea along with writing a treatment about this for the Personal Profile. In the following lecture we then discussed in teams which treatment would be more relevant, successful, and whether the person involved in the film easily accessible. Effectively this was a quick process of coming up with an idea for a film as there will be different ideas from everyone therefore there will be more to choose from.

Initially I wrote my own treatment about someone who I used to work with in Southport. The character was quite miserable, with low self esteem and low confidence too. Meanwhile I thought perhaps it is because she did not enjoy her job.

After a few months working with the character she had lost increasing amounts of weight, as she was on a strict diet with the well known business, Slimming World.

• -She lost over five stone
• -Won slimming world of the year
• -Had the opportunity to meet Robbie Savage for her     fantastic achievement     

Now the character is more confident whilst she felt that now she can do more things, as she felt her weight got in the way of that. Subsequently she went to her School prom which she never thought she would go to, along with taking part in dance productions too.


I thought this was be a great idea for a Personal Profile as I can look at it from different angles:
-The types of foods she now eats in comparison to what she did eat.
-The activities, daily routines she felt she could not do which she can now.
-Images of the character before and after
-How it has improved her love life, personality and friendships
-How she is interested in drama, art and dance

From an audience's perspective this can give them the drive and motivation to want to undertake the same procedure as the character. Furthermore some people give up and feel they cannot lose weight, meanwhile after watching this personal profile they might feel that they can do it too. Those interested in what they should eat healthy would be interested along with those who are unsure if diet clubs actually work.

I had already contacted the character and she was happy to be filmed, whilst the locations where I planned to film she said she will already have permission. Meanwhile the only downfall about this is she is located in Southport which is 45 minutes away from Liverpool which could be quite inconvenient for other members of the production team.
